I’m sure there are a lot of people out there wondering how to make appealing Android app icons.

A recent post on android-developers.blogspot.com provides all the things to take into account when designing your Android application icon in addition to their current launcher icon guidelines. First, your launcher icons must be 48dp square and should be arranged for MDPI, HDPI, XHDPI, and XXHDPI densities—at the very least XHDPI and XXHDPI.

Second, the 512px Google Play listing icon should have the same content as the launcher icon, except for minor additional badging.

Third, the launcher icons should be constructed specifically for Android. As per the Pure Android design guidelines, avoid imitating visual elements and styles from other platforms.
